David Tennant narrates the audiobook and does a fantastic job creating unique voices for every single character!

I listened to this book on audiobook for David Tennant, and he did not disappoint。 I enjoyed his commitment to the story as I do with anything he does。 It was a cute book and worth a listen。

My son and I really enjoy this book!

The kids LOVED this giving it 500 and 5 stars respectively。 I thought it was cute and fun to read - very different from the first movie。 I liked the illustrations and dragon trading card-style information。 Wish there had been more information on Toothless - guess he really is a Common or Garden dragon after all。 I still don't "get" the Singing Supper bit but don't really care to dive in to find out more。 Wish our library had more of the series - it has no。 12 and this one (but only as an e-book) The kids LOVED this giving it 500 and 5 stars respectively。 I thought it was cute and fun to read - very different from the first movie。 I liked the illustrations and dragon trading card-style information。 Wish there had been more information on Toothless - guess he really is a Common or Garden dragon after all。 I still don't "get" the Singing Supper bit but don't really care to dive in to find out more。 Wish our library had more of the series - it has no。 12 and this one (but only as an e-book)。 Seems like it's quite a popular series with the movies and TV show。 。。。more

Listened to this one with my family。 The narrator is amazing and we loved the story。 Be warned--it is very different from the movie, so if that is what your kids are expecting, they will be disappointed。

Don't mind me, I'm just going on a David Tennant audiobook binge。 I love Cressida Cowell's books - she has just the right balance of heart, humor and heroics in everything she writes。 On to the next audiobook! Note that although these books inspired the screen adaptations of the same name, the two series are very different。We listened on CD in the van, audiobook narrated by David Tennant in thick Scottish accent (because vikings are Scottish, right?)。 Enjoyable to listen to and the kids loved it。 Lots of snot, farts, etc, that kind of humor。 It's pretty much all comedy, no moral lessons。 Fun but "twaddle。"One star comes off for having hundreds of vikings but apparently no female ones, except—you guess Note that although these books inspired the screen adaptations of the same name, the two series are very different。We listened on CD in the van, audiobook narrated by David Tennant in thick Scottish accent (because vikings are Scottish, right?)。 Enjoyable to listen to and the kids loved it。 Lots of snot, farts, etc, that kind of humor。 It's pretty much all comedy, no moral lessons。 Fun but "twaddle。"One star comes off for having hundreds of vikings but apparently no female ones, except—you guessed it—the protagonist's mom, since having a baby is the only job that must necessarily be done by a woman。 She has only a couple lines of dialogue in the whole book。 I looked it up online, and it appears that the author only realized she omitted her own half of humankind in book 3, so she added a new, all-female tribe of vikings led by。。。 wait for it。。。 Big-Boobied Bertha。 Right, good thing that's all fixed then! 。。。more

Not as good as the films, but definitely nails the third-grade humor。 Luckily, I was warned to expect exactly this。 Tremendously enjoyed by my three and five year old, but there's no real YA fantasy charm to any adult readers。 Despite this, there is some wordplay, stealth puns, and other jokes that I wouldn't expect the target audience to catch。 It is rife with absurdist, slapstick humor that is common to English culture, but again it's aimed at young readers, folks over the age of 10 or 11 will Not as good as the films, but definitely nails the third-grade humor。 Luckily, I was warned to expect exactly this。 Tremendously enjoyed by my three and five year old, but there's no real YA fantasy charm to any adult readers。 Despite this, there is some wordplay, stealth puns, and other jokes that I wouldn't expect the target audience to catch。 It is rife with absurdist, slapstick humor that is common to English culture, but again it's aimed at young readers, folks over the age of 10 or 11 will probably find it tedious。 。。。more

This was a great book! I bought the whole series to add to my library and I'm obviously also reading it。 Everything about this story is making me happy。 I listened to the audiobook along with the book and I can say you need to listen as you read, despite some words not being the same in both。 The audiobook makes the story come alive much better than anyone can do reading it physically。 This is my first Cressida Cowell book and definitely won't be the last。 I look forward to getting to the rest o This was a great book! this was pretty stinkin cute。 i didnt know the movie was based off a book and im charmed。 the audio presentation was good, the narrator used a scottish accent for the story and was super duper silly speaking as toothless ths dragon。 i obviously need to rewatch the movie to do a basic comparison and constrast for my own personal gaze。 i am a fan of any story that is lore based, i enjoyed all the varities of dragons detailed in this short tale。 it was a great companion audio to rowlings fantastic this was pretty stinkin cute。 i didnt know the movie was based off a book and im charmed。 the audio presentation was good, the narrator used a scottish accent for the story and was super duper silly speaking as toothless ths dragon。 i obviously need to rewatch the movie to do a basic comparison and constrast for my own personal gaze。 i am a fan of any story that is lore based, i enjoyed all the varities of dragons detailed in this short tale。 it was a great companion audio to rowlings fantastic beasts and where to find them。 rowlings presented a short list of the worlds dragons and i feel as if cowells story elaborated upon what are considered scottish dragon varities。the morales pushed forward by this kids story are noble and positive。 might doesnt equal right, even if tradition says so。 determination will drive results。 every situation can be unique but a well rounded recount of history will assist in difficult times。 i am still wondering why toothless has a lisp, is it because of his lack of fangs? 。。。more

I read this book years ago and wanted to visit it again。 This book is a simple yet awesome read。 It's very simple and hilarious at times。 Completely different from the movies but still worth every minute。 The only downside to these books for me is that they can be crude in some areas。 The author purpose is to be funny but I feel like it shows a little bit of laziness when a writer does this。 Rather than really thinking about something funny, many writers just throw in something crude to get a la I read this book years ago and wanted to visit it again。 This book is a simple yet awesome read。 It's very simple and hilarious at times。 Completely different from the movies but still worth every minute。 The only downside to these books for me is that they can be crude in some areas。 The author purpose is to be funny but I feel like it shows a little bit of laziness when a writer does this。 Rather than really thinking about something funny, many writers just throw in something crude to get a laugh。 Besides this I would recommend anyone who's a fan of the movies or just wants to find a good younger grade level book to read this。 。。。more

I listened to the audiobook with my kids。 We all loved it!! So funny, exciting and very different from the movie adaptation (way better!)。 The reader was so talented and we all looked forward to listening each day。 We can’t wait for book 2!

This is written for middle (Junior High) school children。 Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is ten years old and is facing the initiation tests to become an adult and set out on the path to becoming the next chief when his father passes on many years from now。 It is still a good read and a different perspective。 This is the one time that I like the TV re-write of a book。 The TV show rewrote Hiccup as a 16 year old and thus facing the realities of adulthood so it is more for the Senior High Sch This is written for middle (Junior High) school children。 Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is ten years old and is facing the initiation tests to become an adult and set out on the path to becoming the next chief when his father passes on many years from now。 It is still a good read and a different perspective。 This is the one time that I like the TV re-write of a book。 The TV show rewrote Hiccup as a 16 year old and thus facing the realities of adulthood so it is more for the Senior High School kids。 。。。more

I really enjoyed the story。 However the art style looked too young。 I know this is a children’s book, but I don’t like the little detail put into the art。 Also I don’t like how some of the spelling is wrong。 I still enjoyed the story and I loved listening to the audio book by Lovadio Brooks。 They made the book very enjoyable with their several accents。 I would read the rest of the series。

I honestly can not see how this book was turned into the sweeping epic that was the movie。 If you aren't 5-8, and you don't love fart jokes, this book isn't for you。 I honestly can not see how this book was turned into the sweeping epic that was the movie。 If you aren't 5-8, and you don't love fart jokes, this book isn't for you。 。。。more

I haven't actually seen the movie of the same name, but I've picked up enough through pop culture osmosis to know that it is COMPLETELY different from the book。 So first of all, write that down。 Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is the skinny, weedy, intellectual son of Stoic the Vast, chieftain of a tribe of muscle-bound louts who turn their noses up at the idea of books。 Capturing and training dragons is an ancient tradition in this tribe of Vikings, but the generally accepted method is to yell at I haven't actually seen the movie of the same name, but I've picked up enough through pop culture osmosis to know that it is COMPLETELY different from the book。 So first of all, write that down。 Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is the skinny, weedy, intellectual son of Stoic the Vast, chieftain of a tribe of muscle-bound louts who turn their noses up at the idea of books。 Capturing and training dragons is an ancient tradition in this tribe of Vikings, but the generally accepted method is to yell at them, a lot, whereas Hiccup actually goes to the trouble of learning the dragons' language。 This ability comes in very handy later, when the fate of his entire generation and the tribe as a whole is at stake。 There are some parts of the book that weren't fully developed to the extent that they deserved, like worldbuilding and the existence of ANY women at all, but this is only the first book in the series and later books develop them more fully。 The series never stops being incredibly irreverent, and I love that about it。  。。。more

This book was my childhood favorite。 I will have read it a thousand times, I never got tired of doing it。 It is also the reason why I terribly hate the saga of movies that they took from it, and why it kills me with shame that there are so many negative comments from people who have come to read it after seeing the movies, saying terrible things like that his characters are not fond of。Hippo is not a handsome boy, he is a very intelligent and passionate weak and goofy boy who must make his way i This book was my childhood favorite。 I will have read it a thousand times, I never got tired of doing it。 It is also the reason why I terribly hate the saga of movies that they took from it, and why it kills me with shame that there are so many negative comments from people who have come to read it after seeing the movies, saying terrible things like that his characters are not fond of。Hippo is not a handsome boy, he is a very intelligent and passionate weak and goofy boy who must make his way in a town of empty heads。 Toothless is not a beautiful, strange and endearing giant dragon, it is an ordinary, tiny, curmudgeonly and self-centered garden dragon。 And with all that, two weak companions who don't even get along have to make their way through the wonderful story that this book leaves us。 I hope that the children of the future have an opportunity by putting aside the film, seeing it as something totally different and far from worse。 。。。more

I read this with my 7 and 5 year-old boys。 They liked it, but it wasn't my favorite。。。。it was a little cheesy and the humor was kind of cheap in places。 I didn't love the negative conversations throughout the book between the dragon and hiccup, and also all of the boys together。 I'm always pleased when my kids are happy about a book, so I give it three stars overall。 I read this with my 7 and 5 year-old boys。 They liked it, but it wasn't my favorite。。。。it was a little cheesy and the humor was kind of cheap in places。 I didn't love the negative conversations throughout the book between the dragon and hiccup, and also all of the boys together。 I'm always pleased when my kids are happy about a book, so I give it three stars overall。 。。。more
